How can I get involved with the Suffolk Repair Shed?
Repairer Members are here for the regular repair sessions (currently Tuesday evenings and Friday mornings). Membership is free. They get involved with the genuinely rewarding activity of saving items from the tip while working with and learning from others. Like a Men’s Shed there’s a significant element of sociability (ie tea and biscuits).
People who want to do their own work can join as Maker Members. There’ll be access at any time for your own projects. If you don’t have your own shed or workspace then this is a great place to come to to work in. If you do have your own space, then it is likely that there’ll be a wider range of tools and skills to help your projects. Membership fees will be set at a modest level, and will be offset against any repair work that you do.
What’s in the Repair Shed? Apart from work benches ,cubicles and general hand tools we are equipped for:
- Electrical and electronic analysis and repair
- Metalwork inc fabrication and machining
3d printing and scanning, CAD
Fabric & leatherwork
See the more detailed inventory here, or come and visit.
If that is of interest, please get in touch.
Other Roles. There are plenty of areas which don’t require mending skills but where we could do with help, including
- organising the monthly Martlesham Repair Hub
- Publicity and social media
- administration and accounts
All the above are flexible part-time tasks needing the patience of a saint and sublime cat-herding capabilities.
If you might be able to help, please get in touch.
