Repair Terms

Suffolk Repair Shed (SRS) – Repair T&C’s

These relate both to items brought tothe Suffolk Repair Shed in Martlesham, and to other venues, eg Repair Hubs

1. All customers are required to provide contact details for SRS records before any repairs can be assessed. SRS aims to be GDPR compliant and all information provided is treated with the utmost confidence and never passed to a third party. A copy of our Privacy Policy is available on request.

2. Each item will be allocated a unique job number. If possible, please quote this job number in any communication.

3.In all cases:

  • The advice and repair service is conducted by experienced and competent volunteers.

  • There is no charge but donations are welcome to cover costs including the purchase of tools and equipment and the development of the service.

  • Neither SRS nor the repairers in personal capacities or otherwise are liable for any loss or injury whatsoever that may result from any repair carried out or for any advice or instructions given and used at a later date.

  • Neither SRS nor the repairers in personal capacities or otherwise are liable for any accidental damage that may occur to either visitors’ goods or personal effects during visitors’ time at the sessions.

  • Repairers offer no guarantee for any repairs carried out with or without their help and are not liable if any repaired items do not work properly at home or break down again in the future.

  • Items will be examined on arrival in reception and SRS reserves the right to refuse to accept for repair any item that is considered too dangerous and/or damaged or obviously beyond repair. Repairers are fully entitled to use their discretion in this regard. Customers are responsible for the removal of all items that cannot be repaired.

  • SRS takes no responsibility in any form whatever for any item, repaired or otherwise, once it has left the premises

4. If possible items will be repaired at the Hub. Customers are expected to remain with the repairer while the repair is being carried out in order to see how the repair is being done and to learn new skills. Parents are asked to exercise control over, and be responsible for, the behaviour of their children whilst attending the Hub.

5. If limitations of time, tools or techniques mean that a repair cannot be completed at the Repair Hub, then an option is to transfer the job to the Suffolk Repair Shed. In that case

  • Donations are taken at the outset, and are contingent on a successful repair. Donations are held in a separate account until the item is returned to the owner.

  • Customers will be given a ticket with the job number and contact details. Customers are welcome to check on the progress of repairs.

  • SRS will make best efforts to repair items in a timely fashion within the constraints of volunteer efforts and the availability of spare parts. We cannot guarantee specific timescales; owners will be advised if there are unexpected delays.

  • Customers will be contacted by one of the repairers when the item is ready for collection.

  • If an item remains in the Repair Shed for 4 weeks after an owner has been contacted to arrange collection, then SRS reserve the right to dispose of the article as appropriate. Any donation will be forfeit.

  • Except for bringing or collecting items, customers or members of the public are not permitted into the Repair Shed.
